Searching for a new pickup that can satisfy all your needs? The 2019 Ford F-150 and the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are both popular choices with drivers near Aurora, but only one will have exactly what you need. Before you choose one model or the other, find out how they measure up in the categories most important to our friends and neighbors.

Performance Specs: Chevy Silverado vs. Ford F-150

Although both pickup trucks come in near the top of their class, you’ll want to know how their engines and capabilities compare before bringing your new truck home to St. Charles. Here are some of the most important points to remember:

  • The Chevy Silverado base engine might have more torque than the Ford base engine, but the latter still has an edge in horsepower. With six options available, compared to five in the Chevy, drivers might prefer the more easily customizable Ford.
  • The F-150 also wins out in terms of towing power. Although capacities will vary by significant margins from trim to trim, the Ford F-150 maximum capacity is more impressive. You’ll be able to tow 13,200 pounds, compared to a maximum Silverado 1500 towing capacity of 12,200.
  • Both of these pickups offer numerous trims, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that each now offers a model that’s been specialized for off-road adventures. The Silverado Trail Boss and the F-150 Raptor both have their strong points.

  • Are you a fan of diesel engines? Although both trucks now offer a turbocharged diesel setup, the Chevy Duramax® offers more horsepower and torque than the F-150 Power Stroke®.

A More Reliable Pickup: F-150 vs. Silverado 1500

  • J.D. Power ranks the Silverado as the more reliable pickup truck. It earned four points out of five, while the F-150 only managed to pick up a rating of three points out of five.
  • The basic and powertrain warranties offered by these pickups are essentially identical. Each also includes a corrosion warranty; the Chevy model’s lasts longer, while the Ford package covers more miles.
  • Chevy pays for your first scheduled maintenance visit in a new Silverado 1500. Ford does no such thing, so you’ll be on the hook for the full cost of your first appointment.

Features and Inclusions: F150 vs. Silverado 1500

The Ford F-150 was refreshed in 2018, while the Silverado 1500 received a full redesign in 2019. Both offer many of the advanced features you’d expect from a modern pickup, but there are certain key differences that may cause you to prefer one over the other:

  • Upgraded Silverado trims offer a head-up display and Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging. F-150 models do not offer these features, but they do include adaptive cruise control and Park Assist when properly upgraded.
  • In this comparison, only the Silverado comes standard with CornerStep and Bluetooth® compatibility. Similar or identical features are available in the Ford F-150, but you’ll have to pay extra for these upgrades.
